Market wrap: VN-Index surges 1.2% 

The VN-Index surged 1.2% (+13.9 pts) on Wednesday to close the trading day at 1,211.0. The index’s rise comes after two days of losses. Across the index, there were 416 gainers, 120 laggards, and 56 unchanged stocks. Total trading volume sharply declined from the previous trading day to USD727.3mn.

* Banks performed well as TCB (+3.8%), MBB (+1.3%), and ACB (+2.1%) sharply rose, and BID (+0.7%), CTG (+0.5%), and VPB (+0.6%) gained. VCB (-0.9%) fell and STB (-1.1%) and SSB (-3.7%) plunged.  

* Real estate stocks also did well, with VHM (+1.7%), BCM (+5.8%), VRE (+6.6%), KDH (+2.5%), and DXG (+5.4%) jumping.  

* Several basic materials tickers surged, including HPG (+2.0%), GVR (+3.8%), DGC (+3.9%), DPM (+1.3%), and HSG (+6.8%).  

* Other notable gainers included beer producer SAB (+4.3%), retailers MWG (+2.6%), FRT (+5.1%), and PNJ (+2.5%), and oil & gas company BSR (+2.7%) and airline VJC (+2.6%).
