Market wrap: VN-Index posts slight gain of 0.1%

The VN-Index posted a slight gain of 0.1% (+1.9 pts) on Wednesday to close the trading day at 1,334.4. The index has increased for five consecutive trading days. While VCB surged on dividend news and VHM and VIC climbed on accelerating real estate developments, the broader VN30 and large-cap segment faced heavy selling pressure, closing the session in the red. Across the index, there were 189 gainers, 272 decliners, and 78 unchanged stocks. Total trading volume increased from the previous trading day to USD860mn.

* Bank stocks VCB (+2.9%) and LPB (+1.9%) surged as BID (-1.2%), TCB (-0.5%), VPB (-0.5%), MBB (-0.8%), and all other large-cap tickers in the sector declined.  

* In real estate, VHM (+3.2%) and VIC (+1.7%) sharply gained, and BCM (+0.5%) and VRE (+0.6%) advanced. KDH (-1.4%), NVL (-0.5%), and SIP (-0.5%) fell.  

* Noteworthy gainers in other sectors included utility companies GAS (+0.7%) and POW (+0.4%), financial services firm VND (+5.2%), chemical company DGC (+0.8%), oil & gas company BSR (+0.8%), electricity company GEE (+1.4%), and construction & materials VGC (+3.9%).  

* Notable laggards included tech company FPT (-1.2%), rubber producer GVR (-1.8%), steelmaker HPG (-1.2%), airline HVN (-1.2%), and retailer MWG (-0.5%).
