Market wrap: VN-Index posts minimal gain

On Wednesday, the VN-Index posted a minimal gain of 0.1% (+1.2 pts) to close the trading day at 1,246.0. The index dipped below the 1,240 threshold but recovered during the afternoon session. Throughout the index, there were 153 gainers, 203 laggards, and 72 stocks that were unchanged. Total trading volume increased compared to the previous trading day to USD603.3mn.

* Real estate companies KBC (+2.9%), NVL (+2.4%), PDR (+1.9%), and SIP (+1.1%) surged while VIC (+0.1%) and BCM (+0.2%) ticked up. VHM was unchanged.  

* Banks VCB (+0.7%), TCB (+0.4%), VPB (+1.3%), and MBB (+0.2%) rebounded after yesterday’s losses. BID (-0.3%) and CTG (-0.4%) declined.  

* Airline HVN (+2.9%), retailer MWG (+1.8%), tech company FPT (+0.7%), telecom towerco CTR (+5.3%), and food & beverage conglomerate MSN (+0.7%) were in the top-ten stocks helping lift the index.  

* Some of the notable laggards putting negative pressure on the market included steel maker HPG (-1.6%), rubber producer GVR (-1.1%), utility company GAS (-0.4%), oil & gas company PLX (-1.3%), and securities company SSI (-0.9%).
