Market wrap: VN-Index falls 0.4%, banks apply downward pressure
On the final day of 2024, the VN-Index fell 0.4% (-5.2 pts) to close the trading day at 1,266.8. Four large-cap banks fell by more than 1.5%, applying strong downward pressure on the market. Throughout the index, there were 155 gainers, 254 laggards, and 79 stocks that were unchanged. Total trading volume slightly declined compared to the previous trading day to USD455.1mn.
* The four banks mentioned above were CTG (-2.8%), BID (-1.8%), HDB (-4.3%), and STB (-2.5%). VCB (-0.9%) and LPB (-0.9%) also declined. TCB (+1.0%), MBB (+1.2%), and ACB (+1.6%) surged.
* Financial services performed poorly as SSI (-1.5%), VCI (-1.2%), HCM (-0.7%), and VND (-1.2%) lost value.
* Real estate company VHM (-0.7%), insurance company BVH (-2.5%), oil & gas company PLX (-1.8%), and rubber producer GVR (-0.7%) were among the top ten stocks pushing the index down.
* Noteworthy gainers included tech company FPT (+1.3%), real estate companies BCM (+1.6%) and VPI (+2.8%), and utility company REE (+1.3%).
