Market wrap: VN-Index edges up 0.4% on Monday

On Monday, the VN-Index edged up 0.4% (+5.2 pts) to close the trading day at 1,235.7. The banks sector had a strong positive effect on the index. Throughout the index, there were 206 gainers, 191 laggards, and 71 stocks that were unchanged. Total trading volume increased compared to the previous trading day to USD476.6mn.

* The six leading banks were TCB (+1.7%), VCB (+0.6%), MBB (+1.7%), LPB (+1.7%), BID (+0.5%), and CTG (+0.5%).  

* Large-cap real estate stocks VHM (-0.8%), VIC (-0.5%), BCM (-0.1%), and VRE (-0.9%) declined while NVL (-4.0%) plunged.  

* Steelmaker HPG (+1.4%), oil & gas company PLX (+2.1%), financial services firm SSI (+1.9%), and beer producer SAB (+0.9%) were among the day’s standout gainers.  

* Airline HVN (-2.9%), food & beverage conglomerate MSN (-0.8%), utility company GAS (-0.5%), and retailer MWG (-0.4%) were some of the notable laggards from other sectors.
