Market wrap: VN-Index edges down 0.48% amid elevated turnover

The VN-Index edged down 0.48% (-6.35 pts) on Friday to close the trading week at 1,317.46. Large-cap stocks weighed on the market as 18 constituents of the VN30 basket posted losses. Throughout the index, there were 152 gainers, 293 laggards, and 81 stocks unchanged. Total trading volume increased 13% compared to the previous trading day to USD667.7mn.  

* In Banking sector, VCB (-1.1%), TCB (-0.7%), HDB (-1.8%), and CTG (-0.6%) declined. LPB (+1.4%) gained, SSB (+0.5%), MSB (+0.4%), and EIB (+0.3%) advanced.  

* Consumer goods tickers also negatively impacted the benchmark as VNM (-1.3%), MSN (-1.3%), PNJ (-3.4%), and VHC (-3.1%) plunged.  

* The Materials sector also performed poorly, as HPG (-1.3%), DGC (-2.1%), GVR (-0.4%), and HSG (-2.0%) declined.  

* Selling activity resumed in Tech stocks as FPT (-1.7%), CMG (-1.6%), SGT (-2.5%), and ELC (-1.4%) dropped. However, SAM (+3.6%) outperformed its peer sector.

* Laggards from other sectors that strongly affected the index included Oil & Gas PLX (-2.8%), BSR (-1.8%), and PVD (-1.3%), Utilities REE (-3.0%), GAS (-0.6%), TDM (-2.2%), and BWE (-1.3%).  

* In the Real estate sector, VIC (+1.6%), KBC (+1.2%), BCM (+0.3%), and SIP (+0.5%) while in Financial Services, BSI (+4.8%), VND (+1.0%), HCM (+1.0%), and FTS (+1.4%) were among the notable gainers in the index.
