Market wrap: VN-Index drops 0.7%, bank stocks lead losses again

The VN-Index dropped 0.7% (-9.9 pts) on Tuesday to close the trading day at 1,269.9. For the second consecutive day, six of the top-ten stocks negatively affecting the index were banks. Throughout the index, there were 107 gainers, 269 laggards, and 58 stocks that were unchanged. Total trading volume sharply increased compared to the previous trading day to USD752.6mn. 

* The bank stocks mentioned above were BID (-1.8%), VCB (-0.7%), CTG (-1.4%), ACB (-1.6%), MBB (-1.2%), and VIB (-2.3%). TCB (+0.2%) and HDB (+0.2%) gained.  

* Rubber producer GVR (-4.1%) was the top stock pushing the market down. Other basic materials tickers HPG (-0.4%) and DGC (-1.7%) also performed poorly. DCM (0.0%) was unchanged. 

* Real estate stocks BCM (-2.3%), VRE (-2.6%), and KBC (-3.7%) plunged. VHM (+0.9%) posted a solid gain.  

* Other significant decliners were tech companies FPT (-1.8%) and CMG (-3.2%), food & beverage conglomerate MSN (-1.6%), beer maker SAB (-1.1%), airline VJC (-1.3%), retailer PNJ (-1.7%), and utility company GAS (-0.7%).
