Market wrap: VN-Index declines 0.7%

The VN-Index declined 0.7% (-8.2 pts) on Monday to close the trading day at 1,246.4. Several blue-chip stocks across sectors saw heavy losses and weighed on the market. Throughout the index, there were 82 gainers, 318 laggards, and 68 stocks that were unchanged. Total trading volume marginally increased compared to the previous trading day to USD539.6mn.

* Banks BID (+1.6%), VCB (+0.9%), VPB (+0.3%), HDB (+0.2%), and STB (+0.4%) gained as MBB (-1.2%), ACB (-1.2%), and LPB (-0.3%) declined. CTG and TCB were unchanged.  

* Basic materials stocks HPG (-2.1%), GVR (-2.9%), DGC (-2.6%), DCM (-1.9%), and HSG (-2.2%) plunged.  

* Food & beverage conglomerate MSN (-3.6%), airline HVN (-4.2%), retailer MWG (-2.7%), and beer producer SAB (-2.6%) were in the top six stocks negatively affecting the index.  

* Some of the notable gainers included tech company FPT (+0.2%), logistics company VTP (+6.9%), telecom towerco CTR (+1.5%), jewelry company PNJ (+0.2%), and airline VJC (+0.2%).
