Market wrap: VN-Index approaches 1,200

The VN-Index climbed 1.3% on Wednesday to close at 1,194.14 with trading turnover on HOSE hitting a nearly one-month high of USD605mn following gains in global markets. 

* VCB (+1.7%) was the top contributor to the day’s gain. Fellow banks BID (+2.1%), CTG (+1.9%) and TPB (+4.8%) also advanced. 

* VHM (+1.5%) snapped a three-session losing streak. Conversely, parent company VIC (-0.9%) was the day’s top contributing decliner. 

* Securities brokerages VCI (+4.2%), HCM (+4.0%), SSI (+3.1%) and VND (+2.4%) experienced strong gains. 

* GAS (+1.1%) has jumped 5.6% over the last two days. 

* Retailer MWG (+2.0%) ended a seven-session losing streak.
