Investors’ sentiment improved in January, pushing both stock market indices up sharply. Proposals to tighten control on gold and relax limits on foreign ownership helped confidence, as did government moves to set up an AMC for banks’ NPLs. Foreign investors accumulated a net VND2.4tn, almost the same as December, and accounted for 17% of total trading value on the HSX. At the end of the month, the VNI closed at 479.8, up 61.4(14.7%) from December, while the HNI soared 6% to 62.6.
