In contrast to the GSO’s forecast of a USD900mn trade surplus for February, the Customs Office has announced that Vietnam had in fact suffered a trade deficit of USD90mn, the first deficit since May 2012. The GSO’s forecast was likely distorted by the Tet holiday. The Custom’s Office adjusted up the import figure from an estimated USD6.6bn to USD7.24bn, and adjusted down the export figure from an estimate of USD7.5bn to USD7.15bn.
